You are here: Home » Players & Staff » Playing Staff » Matty O' Neill Name: Matty O' Neill Nationality: English Born: 25.06.1984 (Accrington) Previous Clubs: Burnley (02-05; 13-0), Accrington Stanley (05-06; 6-0), Radcliffe Borough (06-07; 85-11) Position: Midfield Having come through the ranks at Turf Moor, Matty was a regular member of the first team squad, totalling thirteen 1st team appearances for the Clarets before moving to hometown club Accrington for a short spell. He proved to be one of the few successes in a struggling Radcliffe Borough side relegated from the UniBond Premier League in 2006/07, before he was snapped up by Danny Johnson in September 2007. His Ashton career started with a bang, scoring an incredible volleyed goal in a 7-2 demolition of Frickley Athletic on his league debut for the club. Later in the campaign he showed his versatility by filling in as an emergency full-back following an injury to Liam McManus. 2008/09 saw Matty establish himself as United's first choice right winger. Injuries interrupted his season, but he still played a major role and will be looking to do so again as he starts his third season at Hurst Cross. Gallery:
