Whilst at Haig Avenue Ian was loaned out to Clitheroe for part of the 2005-06 season before making a permanent move across Lancashire, this time to sign for Radcliffe Borough for the 2006-07 season.
An impressive campaign for a struggling Boro side saw Ian earmaked by Jim Vince and the versatile youngster was recruited by Witton Albion for the start of the 2007-08 season, where he went on to feature regularly for the side that went so close to lifting the UniBond League title. Ian also weighed in with his fair share of goals, including a penalty in a UniBond League Cup tie against Colwyn Bay, however his last kick in Witton colours was to miss Albion's last fateful penalty in the play-off semi-final meaning Buxton progressed to the final against Gateshead. United saw off interest from Halifax Town to secure Ian's signature at the start of the 2008/09 season, and he soon established himself as captain of the side with a string of assured displays.
