Daryl came through the Stalybridge Celtic youth section where his potential was spotted by former Ashton manager Gerry Quinn, who signed him for Mossley. 

After two good seasons at Seel Park, culminating in the Player of the Year Award in 2009, he signed for Curzon Ashton but after just a few months later he moved across town and up a division and made an immediate impact at the higher level by scoring on debut.
